THE SINGER is a multimedia installation which tells the story of a textile worker, a woman called Lucky. Lucky was interviewed in the urban settlement of Karai Basti, Dhaka, Bangladesh, in April 2016, during a research study of the condition of textile workers in Bangladesh. 

The installation THE SINGER features a song based on this interview. One hears the beautiful, melodic voice of the Bangla singer, emanating from the darkness of the catacombs, telling us about the life of Lucky - yet we don’t see her - only the Singer sewing machine on which she works. A single voice, a singing sewing machine, sheds a light on the existence of thousands of textile workers in Bangladesh. 

OUT OF THE DARK

This group show consists of special installations in the six “tubes” of the 4th underground level of the former Kindl-Brauerei. 

Six different site-specific artistic contributions in the so-called “tubes” of the former storage basement area, all dealing with the theme of light versus shadow. Some of these installations use light or sound to fill the unique architecture with new, artistic energy. Only adults will be admitted on guided group tours only.

THE SINGER

Die Multimediale Installation erzählt die Geschichte einer Textilarbeiterin, die Lucky genannt wird. Die Frau lebt in Bangladesh und zwar in der informellen Siedlung Korai Bosti. The Singer macht am Beispiel von Lucky aufmerksam auf das Schattendasein von Menschen, dir für unsere Konsumgüter schwer arbeiten müssen, ohne sich ein menschenwürdiges Leben zu verdienen. Eine Textilarbeiterin aber bekommt eine Stimme, der wir konzentriert zuhören können.

OUT OF THE DARK

Eine Gruppenausstellung der besonderen Art präsentiert Installationen im 4. Untergeschoss der Kindl-Brauerei. Sechs künstlerische Positionen widmen sich in den sechs so genannten Tubes des ehemaligen Lagerkellers dem Thema Licht und Schatten. Zum Teil kinetische Licht- und Soundinstallationen füllen die außergewöhliche Architektur mit neuem, künstlerischem Leben. Zugang nur für Erwachsene im Rahmen einer Führung. Bitte achten Sie auf festes Schuhwerk!

which I did, limply. 

He signs show after show at the French Institute of Budapest 

at the speed of light.

Il est grand, mince et légèrement vouté, flegmatique - presque mou. 

Gentil, il me confiera la réalisation 

d’une couverture d’un magazine de photo lambda, 

que je ferai, mollement. 

Il fait des expos à tours de bras à l’institut de Budapest.

To frequent him was very, very bad, therefore secret and exciting. 

Of medium size, round faced, we played fools for a long time. 

He always lost, was never defeated.

Il était l’officiel d’une amie de la grande soeur de ma voisine, un vrai “adulte”. Le voir était très très mal, donc secret et excitant. 

De taille moyenne, le visage rond, nous jouâmes longtemps à être dupes. 

Il en ressortait toujours perdant, jamais battu.

I thought myself in love when in fact it was just attraction: 

carpenter, well built muscular body, 

beautiful and chiseled face framed by a sort of blonde curly afro, 

big fat flirt without too many detours, we had one memorable night. 

But soon, he complicates everything, it all goes bad. 

He inspired a whole project, thank you Manuel.

Je croyais en être très amoureuse alors qu’en fait il s’agissait juste d’attirance: 
menuisier, corps bien planté bien musclé, 

beau visage ciselé et encadré d’une sorte d’afro blonde à bouclettes, 

bon gros flirt sans trop de détours, nous passâmes une nuit inoubliable. 

Mais très vite, il complique tout, ça se gâte. 

Il m’inspire tout un projet, merci Manuel.
